A group of athletes from the UK are gearing up for a rather gruelling physical challenge - the Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon.
Mike Firmstone, Ian Lomas and Phil Langman from Devon and Samuel Ryall from Cardiff will be running the equivalent of six marathons over seven days in a bid to raise money for charity.
The plucky foursome will be battling against the heat as part of the six-day event and will cover a distance of 250 kilometres in South Africa's Kalahari Desert with all the money they raise earmarked for the Children's Hospice South West, the Herald Express reports.
They have called themselves The Kalahari Darts, and they will be running in temperatures of up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Commenting on the task ahead, Mr Firmstone told the paper: "The training for this type of extreme challenge is crucial as we will be running over rough terrain in searing heat and the demands on our team will be unrelenting.
"The route through the Kalahari includes rocky ground, dry river beds, sand dunes and gorges and we'll need both physical and mental stamina to be able to survive the heat and the trauma to our bodies."
The eighth edition of the Kalahari marathon is due to take place from October 18th to October 28th.
