Golf holidays in South Africa are set to become more popular as the country grows into one of the top destinations for the sporting pastime, according to research.
A survey conducted by KPMG Golf Advisory Services found that South Africa was one of the countries with the potential to overtake Spain and Portugal as the world's most popular locations for golf holidays.
The organisation conducted research among over 70 tour operators and 50 golf course architects across the world and it emerged that golf holidays in South Africa are set to be big business in the future.
Golf tour operators anticipated continued growth in the established markets of Spain and Portugal but also said that such locations were the most threatened by emerging destinations like South Africa, Travel Daily News reports.
Andrea Sartori, one of the heads of KPMG's Golf Advisory Services team, said: "The golf industry as a whole is likely to benefit from the continued growth of the broader travel and tourism industry.
"However, the traditional golf markets of Europe and North America can expect increasing competition from the emerging golf destinations that offer high quality golfing experiences at affordable prices."
