Travellers with plans for a sports holiday to southern Africa in the coming year will have the opportunity to enjoy a more advanced cricket scene in Namibia after a cash boost of N$2 million (£147,800) for the country.
Telecommunications company MTC renewed its three-year sponsorship of the country's cricket team this week, the Namibian reports.
The N$2 million financing is part of the N$6 million package that the company committed to the Namibian cricket team three years ago.
MTC became the sole sponsor of the national side in 2003.
"Since that date MTC became more and more involved in the development of the game at grassroots level as well as with the national under-19 team and as the sole sponsor of the national club leagues," said Francois Erasmus, president of the Namibia cricket board.
"Every success achieved over the past four years has been made possible by the generous sponsorship of MTC which has steadily increased from 2003 to the significant amount handed over today."
Mr Erasmus said that Namibian cricket has an exciting season ahead, with the senior team returning to the South African SAA provincial competition.
