Green Point stadium in Cape Town, which will host Fifa World Cup matches in 2010, is firmly on track to be completed on its planned date, it has been announced.
Officials overseeing the stadium development announced that the project was on schedule shortly before the construction site celebrated its first anniversary on March 26th.
As well as hosting matches, Cape Town is also a preferred candidate to host the draw for the World Cup in December 2009.
So far, the Green Point stadium is a third complete and is set to be finished before the end of 2009, six months ahead of the tournament.
Fifa, football's world governing body, will inspect seating, television and other technical infrastructure at the venue in October 2009.
Mike Marsden, executive director of service delivery integration for the stadium, said: "We have secured the completion date with the contractors and we are firmly on track to meet the deadline."
He added: "Our stadium is on track, we have planned our fan park and public viewing areas and are now moving into the operational phase of this huge project."
