Travellers on holiday to South Africa need never get lost thanks to a new project that has increased the number of tour guides.
So-called 'Tjommies', meaning friend in Afrikaan, have been specially trained to assist tourists in Cape Town.
The project has been setup by an organisation called Men on the Side of the Road and eight tjommies have so far passed through the training program.
The guides wear a distinctive uniform that comprises a red cap and yellow bib and aid lost visitors.
Tourists to the area may benefit from a further 100 tjommies by next year if extra funding is available.
Figures released this year from South Africa Tourism (SAT) this January showed that visitor numbers were up by nine per cent from September 2006 to the following September.
Moeketsi Mosola, CEO of SAT, said: "Our arrivals are looking exceptionally good."
A large number of tourists travelled from Asia and North America stated the SAT.
