A number of resorts, hotels and other tourist locations in Mozambique are set to receive certification to recognise their employment of sustainable practices, according to reports.
Helder Chambal, deputy director of the Mozambique tourism ministry, said that the award of patents or special brands to hotels and resorts will promote quality of service as well as environmental preservation.
Establishments will have to show that they have a healthy relationship with the community in which they are based and have benefited local areas through infrastructure and development, according to the Mozambique Information Agency.
Mr Chambal explained that the certification process, which could boost the appeal of a number of hotels and resorts for people on holidays to Mozambique, is already being successfully tested in neighbouring countries such as South Africa.
It is hoped that the scheme will prove effective in Mozambique and eventually throughout the whole southern African region.
Mozambique boasts a number of attractions and locations that make it an attractive holiday option, such as the Gorongosa national park, the Ponta d'Ouro dive spot and Tofo beach.
