A member of the executive council of KwaZulu-Natal has celebrated the positive impact of the growing number of people taking South Africa holidays.
Weziwe Thusi, KwaZulu-Natal's representative for arts, culture and tourism, said tourism had benefits on every level from the national to the provincial.
She stressed the importance of the travel industry by revealing that it contributes more than eight per cent of South Africa's gross domestic product, BuaNews reports.
Ms Thusi added: "Over the years, the industry has proven to be one of the most important economic drivers in our country.
"In our province, particularly, some tremendous growth has been achieved, but we still have some way to go to realise our true potential as a tourism destination."
KwaZulu-Natal is marketed to people considering South Africa holidays as 'the Zulu kingdom', which Ms Thusi claimed is a reflection of the richness of its history and its people.
