People on holidays to Mozambique could soon see better access to a destination on the island following action from local residents.
Citizens of the northern city of Pemba recently marched through the town to Wimbe Beach, one of the area's main tourist attractions, the Mozambique Information Agency reports.
The demonstrators were lobbying for the Bay of Pemba to be admitted into the 'most beautiful bays in the world' club.
A team of experts was in the region to judge whether or not the bay should be admitted to the club.
One of the team members told the information agency that she had been impressed by the area, particularly its lack of urbanisation.
"We found that there are good conditions for this bay to enter the club," she said.
"Urban areas have not yet occupied much space along the bay, and this helps its conservation."
An official decision on Pemba Bay is set to be made before the end of the month.
