British people have become so attached to their Kruger national park safari excursions and other trips that they are refusing to give up their annual holidays, no matter how tight their finances are, it has been claimed.
Frances Tuke, a spokeswoman for the Association of British Travel Agents, said that her organisation was not surprised to hear that people are still finding the money to go on holiday, despite the credit crunch.
She said that the range of options now on offer to people planning South Africa holidays and other trips makes it easier for holidaymakers to travel affordably.
"We know from previous recessions and difficult times that holidays are the last things that people are prepared to give up and nowadays, with the huge range of choices when it comes to holidays, people can pick ones that will suit their pocket," Ms Tuke said.
American Express polled more than 2,000 people this year and found that 80 per cent of Britons are not willing to give up their summer holiday.
The increasing popularity of Kruger national park safari excursions and other such trips was shown by a Halifax survey, which found that 2.5 million Brits take holidays to an exotic destination every year.
