Sports fans planning British Lions rugby package trips to South Africa next year have been given the first hint as to some of the star players they may be seeing with the announcement by new England team manager Martin Johnson of his 32-man elite squad.
The announcement of the England squad is a useful pointer ahead of the Lions selection as many players use international games as a stepping stone to playing for the Lions.
Johnson, who is the only man to captain back-to-back Lions tours, named a senior selection and an England Saxons squad that contain some players who are sure to make it onto the trip to South Africa next year.
The elite senior selection includes a number of previous Lions players, such as Lewis Moody, Simon Shaw, Jonny Wilkinson, Josh Lewsey and Andrew Sheridan.
There are also plenty of experienced players in the Saxons squad, including Joe Worsley, Nick Easter, Ben Kay and Mike Tindall.
Fans on British Lions rugby package trips to South Africa next year will see the Lions take on the Springboks in three matches in June and July.
