People planning holidays and honeymoons in South Africa may soon have a wider range of flight routes to choose from as Durban international airport plans to attract more international airlines.
The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Tourism Authority and Airports Company SA are set to offer a number of incentives designed to encourage long-haul carriers to launch services to the coastal city, reports Business Day.
Currently, Durban airport hosts a range of domestic and regional services but no international flights, with the established hubs of Cape Town and Johannesburg proving more attractive to airlines in times of economic instability.
However, KZN Tourism Authority chief executive Ndabo Khoza was positive that this situation could change in the future.
"The economic situation is not permanent and we will continue lobbying airlines to add Durban to their networks," he told Business Day.
"If the capacity is there we can create the demand and make the Durban route a sustainable one."
Durban has plenty of attributes that could making it attractive to people taking honeymoons in South Africa, including the Golden Mile beach and the Victoria Embankment.
