Five South Africa Restaurants ‘World’s Best’
Published: 10/05/2009
Five South African restaurants have received top honours
after being included in the latest edition of San Pellegrino’s list of ‘100 best
eating establishments in the world’.
Le Quartier Français in Franschoek (37); La Colombe in Constantia (38); Jardine
in Cape Town (79), Aubergine (96) also in Cape Town; and Rust en Vrede in
Stellenbosch (98) have been added to this exclusive club. South Africa has
received the most entries of all southern hemisphere countries and the same
number as Australia and Brazil combined.
South African Tourism acting CEO Didi Moyle described Cape Winelands holidays as
a ‘destination of superb and varied dining and wining’. Each restaurant combines
its culinary offerings with a unique African atmosphere and several restaurants
are also historical locations.
The San Pellegrino list is compiled by the restaurant industry with an
international panel of chefs, restaurateurs, food writers and restaurant critics
selecting their favourite dining spots which they have visited in the year prior
to publication. Visitors to the winning restaurants can be confident that their
Cape Winelands holidays will be a memorable culinary experience.
