Regional Air Links Bring Tourist Sites Closer Together

Published: 22/06/2009

New flight routes between South Africa and neighbouring countries will result in greater regional accessibility benefiting tourists on southern Africa holidays, businesses and the region’s governments.

Zambezi Airlines – a low cost Zambian airline- launched ‘value for money flights’ between Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport and Lusaka, Ndola, Kitwe and Livingstone in Zambia. This development links one of South Africa’s primary international gateways with Livingstone Airport which is the access point to Victoria Falls and top spots in Botswana including Chobe Game Reserve.

Regional flight carrier Airlink is introducing direct flights every day between Johannesburg, South Africa and Beira, Mozambique from 4 July 2009. The new route will connect some of the region’s more remote beach destinations and Gorongoza Park in Mozambique with the big city attractions of Johannesburg and nearby Sun City.

Privately owned Airlink has also announced a new route between Nelspruit in Mpumalanga province, South Africa and Livingstone, Zambia starting 17 August 2009. Tourists will now be able to start the day with an early morning game drive at game lodge (in Mpumalanga) and end with a sunset cruise on Zambesi River (or vice versa). The new direct flight service will bring greater convenience as travellers currently need connect in Johannesburg where an overnight is often necessary.

Tourists on southern Africa holidays often combine more than one destination to take advantage of the wide range of travel experiences the region has to offer. These developments will widen the options and make travel in the region easier than ever before.

2 by 2 Holidays are specialists in southern Africa holidays to South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique and Mauritius.
