South Africa introduced a new system on Wednesday 28 April
2010 that will speed up the processing of tourists arriving at points on entry
and enhance the security of the country. The new process allows passport control
to scan passports for at least 65 security features in less than 15 seconds
which will reduce the long wait times tourists have previously experienced when
arriving after a long flight for their South Africa holidays.
Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma impacted the operation of the
system at OR Tambo International Airport where the new system has been piloted.
The new system will now be implemented at 33 priority ports of entry around the
country to facilitate the arrival of football fans on South Africa holidays in
June and July 2010.
