Day 1

Relax in your lush sub-tropical surroundings on the shores of the warm Indian Ocean.
Day 2
This morning discover the unspoilt beauty of the Transkei Wild Coast, birth place of Nelson Mandela and the rural heartland of the Xhosa nation.

This magnificent stretch of coastline is off the main tourist track, as for many years it was quite inaccessible. However investment in recent years in improved infrastructure and roads, means this wild and dramatic coastal region is now accessible for travellers with a sense of adventure and prepared to stay in charming 3-star accommodation in spectacular and unspoilt locations.

After a scenic 4-hour journey through the rolling hills and lush subtropical forests of the Transkei, check in to your Wild Coast beach resort and relax in this place of great beauty and tranquility.
Day 3
Relax and enjoy the unspoilt beaches and beauty of the aptly-named Wild Coast of the undiscovered Transkei.

This magnificent stretch of coastline, extending from Durban to Port Elizabeth, is one of South Africa’s best kept secrets – offering a wild and dramatic coastline, with pristine beaches, spectacular scenery and wonderful holiday weather. Walking opportunities abound along the coastal cliffs, along the beaches and in the forests. Also outstanding bird watching, fishing and scuba diving. Activities vary by hotel, but include cycling and quad biking.
Day 4
Today we continue southwards along the Wild Coast, travelling for 5-hours through the rolling green hills of the Transkei to your malaria-free Private Game Reserve near East London.

At the bustling Xhosa town of Umtata near his home village of Qunu, you have the option of visiting the Nelson Mandela Museum. The museum houses a fascinating collection of photographs, personal memorabilia, documents, gifts and children’s artwork dedicated to the apartheid struggle and its leader. Also rare video-taped interviews with Mandela and other liberation leaders.

After checking in to your game lodge, enjoy an exciting safari drive in an open-top game viewing vehicle accompanied by a lodge ranger. Game viewing opportunities should present themselves almost immediately and hopefully see several species of antelope, zebra, wildebeest and maybe even giraffe today - as well as several of the Big 5. Later enjoy a wonderful dinner in your warm African surroundings!
Day 5
Rise at dawn to take advantage of the best game viewing conditions of the day and enjoy an open-top game viewing drive with your lodge ranger in your Private Game Reserve. Hope to see many interesting species before returning to your lodge for breakfast.

The rest of the morning is free to relax by the lodge swimming pool, before setting out again in the late afternoon for another game drive. Hope to see giraffe, hippo, kudu, crocodiles, antelope, waterbuck, warthogs, baboons and many other interesting animals. With hundreds of different bird species, outstanding bird watching is also guaranteed.

Children < 6 are not allowed on open top game drives
Day 6
Today we travel 3-hours from East London and along the scenic coastal route through the small town of Port Alfred to the university town of Grahamstown.

This town is famous for its many schools and churches and hosts South Africa’s annual English Language & Arts Festival held each July. Here we visit the 1820 Settlers Memorial to learn more about the history of the English settlers sent out to colonise this region and the ensuing conflict with the local Xhosa tribes that lead to the early Frontier Wars. Later we check into our hotel in this historic region.
Day 7
