This eco-friendly Arab Dhow safari starts at Pemba and explores the islands of the spectacular Quirimbas Archipelago in northern Mozambique at a relaxed pace, sleeping on stretchers in dome tents at 2 remote bush camps, before spending time relaxing in more luxury on Ibo Island. Day 1
You will be met at Pemba Airport and transferred 3-hours to the small coastal village of Mucojo, where you will board a traditional Arab dhow and sail with your guide, chef and crew to unnhabited Mogundula Island.
 
Mogundula is one of the prettiest islands in the spectacular Quirimbas Archipelago and a wonderful base from which to explore the area. Your mobile eco-friendly bush camp will be set up by your crew under the shade of beautiful chestnut trees, whilst you swim and snorkel on the magnificent beach. You will sleep on a stretcher bed with foam mattress and sleeping bag and enjoy delicious seafood meals prepared by your chef. When you leave, no trace will remain of your camp.
 
Note: All food is provided, but you will have to pay for all drinks, including bottled water, and any marine park fees.
Day 2
At leisure to relax on the pristine beaches of Mogundula Island.
 
Enjoy swimming and snorkelling in the warm turquoise waters and bird watching along the shores of the island's sacred lake. If you prefer, you can sail by dhow to the Pangane Peninsula or Macaloe Island.
Day 3
Today sail by dhow into the clear blue waters to explore the Quirimbas Archipelago.
 
Enjoy snorkeling amongst the pristine corals or sea kayaking in the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Tonight you will camp in the open Mozambique bush near the mouth of the Ulumbwa River, where rural fishing villages dot the shore.
Day 4
Enjoy an early morning sail up the Ulumbwa River estuary, viewing the wide variety of bird life and mangroves that thrive in this area. Also visit a local fishing village to observe their way if life.
 
Continue to enjoy clear turquoise waters and beautiful scenery as we sail to Matemo Island, before returning to our camp Ulumbwa.
Day 5
This morning your dhow safari concludes, as you sail from Ulumbwa to historic Ibo Island with its 16th century forts and 200-year old ghost town.
 
Check into your lodge on this fascinating island.
Days 6 To 7
At leisure to relax and enjoy the many attractions of Ibo Island.
 
Here you can explore the old town on a guided tour and meet the friendly locals, whose island culture has not changed for hundreds of years.
 
 
Day 8
This morning transfer to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Pemba Airport and onward flight home.
