This luxury Rovos Rail train journey travels from South Africa, through the spectacular desert scenery of the Kalahari to Swakopmund in Namibia. Day 1
You will be met at Johannesburg Airport and transferred to your Pretoria hotel.
  
Check in and relax in this beautiful city under warm blue South African skies.
Day 2
Transfer from your hotel to Capital Park Station to arrive in good time to board the luxury Rovos Rail Pride of Africa departing 15h00 for Swapokmund. You journey commences through the farmlands of the Transvaal and Free State towards Kimberley.
 
Then relax and enjoy the elegance of luxury 5-star train travel of a bygone age, as you settle in to your wood-panelled coach for your 7-day rail journey to Namibia, enjoying fine cuisine outstanding personal service as you travel over 2,000 miles through some of Southern Africa’s most spectacular scenery.
 
Dress code on the train during the day is smart casual, with comfortable walking shoes for the off-train excursion. Evenings are generally more formal, with most guests enjoying the opportunity to dress up in cocktail or evening wear including black tie (although collar & tie is acceptable).
Day 3
We travel past a lake that is home to a spectacular flock of flamingos and arrive in the diamond town of Kimberley at 10h00, where we disembark for a tour of the famous Big Hole and Open Mine Museum. With a surface area of over 40 acres and a perimeter of over 1 mile, this open-pit area was mined to a depth of over 3,000 feet at the height of the diamond rush – the largest hand-dug excavation in the world. At the Village Museum you can also view Eureka, the first recorded diamond discovered in South Africa.
 
We depart Kimberley at 12h30 and continue through the stark vistas of the arid Northern Cape as the train travels towards Upington.
Day 4
Wake up in Upington this morning and disembark from the train for a 2-hour walking tour of this small rural town (good walking shoes required, with sun hat).
 
We continue through the North West Province and around midday arrive at Nakop on the South African border. We enter Namibia and marvel at the spectacular scenery of the arid Kalahari, with overnight at Holoog.
Day 5
This morning we disembark at Holoog for an excursion to the Fish River Canyon, second only in size to the Grand Canyon and a truly spectacular sight (good walking shoes & sun hat required).
 
We return to the train for lunch and continue across the untamed beauty of the Kalahari Desert towards Keetmanshoop, where we again disembark for a 2-hour walking tour.
Day 6
Arrive 09h00 at Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia with its charming German architecture, where we disembark to see the Station Museum followed by a City Tour.
 
We then transfer to the airport for our light aircraft flight to Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert, where we will enjoy lunch, a desert drive and a bush dinner. Check into your desert lodge for overnight.
 
A small overnight bag has been placed in your suite for this excursion. Please pack comfortable clothes & shoes for hot days and cool evenings. Also sun hat & sunscreen.
Day 7
Enjoy breakfast out in the Namib Desert this morning, before your light aircraft back to Windhoek to re-join the train, departing 13.30.
 
Travel through the ever changing landscapes of central Namibia, as we journey northwards toward Etosha National Park.
Day 8
We arrive in Tsumeb 10h40 today and transfer to Mokuti Lodge at the entrance to the great Etosha National Park for lunch.
 
We then enjoy a thrilling afternoon safari game drive in this magnificent park, which is home to elephant, lion, leopard and rhino, as well as vast herds of springbok, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and many other species. The wide-open salt pan offer superb game viewing opportunities, especially for elusive lion, leopard and cheetah. Overnight at Mokuti Lodge.

Day 9
Enjoy another early morning game drive in Etosha National Park before returning to the train and departing for Tsumeb at 13h00.
 
Then enjoy another afternoon of luxury train travel and the magnificent stark landscapes of this dramatic country, including a spectacular African sunset, as the train heads southwards towards Swakopmund.
Day 10
This morning the train passes along the German-built railway line through the Namib Desert and into Swakopmund, a perfectly preserved nineteenth century German Hansa town set on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
 
Arrive Swakopmund Station at 12h30 at the end of your tour and transfer to your hotel, with balance of afternoon at leisure.
Day 11
At leisure to relax at the beach resort of Swakopmund.
 
As this is Namibia’s playground, a wide variety of activities are on offer, including a Marine Cruise to see seals, dolphins and whales in season, a Namib Desert tour, and quad biking or paragliding in the sand dunes.  Alternatively simply relax at a quaint coffee shop or walk along the sandy beaches.
Day 12
Transfer 3-hours from Swakopmund through scenic desert landscapes to Windhoek Airport for your flight home.
