Durban Country Club

Durban Country ClubCourse Information
18 hole, par 72, Championship Course
    Course
Yardage - 6074m (men), 5308 (ladies)

Location
South Africa’s most prestigious golf club, Durban Country Club is a must for any golf lover. It lies in a perfect location, backing onto the Indian Ocean and carved into the dunes. The course has some breathtaking scenery but is certainly not for the faint-hearted and players need to be at their best to score well here.

Playing the Course
South Africa’s highest rated golf course, Durban Country Club is unsurprisingly very testing! Carved into the dunes on the back of a beach of the Indian Ocean it consists of incredible wildlife and foliage, with an impressive range of tropical plants creating a colourful backdrop to your round.

Durban Country Club Beachwood Course

Durban Country Club Beachwood CourseCourse Information
18 hole, par 72, championship course
Yardage - 6016m

Location
The Beachwood Country Club, as it was known before, borders the Indian Ocean. This course boasts impressive views and a unique atmosphere, however it lacks the accentuated undulating fairways that can be found at the Durban Country Club course.

Playing the Course
An attractive course with 41 bunkers around the green and 33 fairway bunkers, it provides an enjoyable round in an dramatic setting. All the fairways run parallel to each other, bar the par 3 second, and they all run in straight lines, apart from the sixth and ninth holes which have a tricky dog-leg to consider. Most of the fairways are lined with trees and four holes have water features to navigate. The fairways are narrow and consequently require quite careful tee shots.

Zimbali Golf Course

Zimbali Golf CourseCourse Information
18 hole, par 72 Championship Course
Yardage - 6600 (Men), 5300 (Ladies)
Course Rating - 71

Location
The Zimbali Golf Resort Course is also situated alongside the Indian Ocean, which allows for breathtaking sea views from holes 14 through to 18. Being located just off the shore, the scenic environment compensates for the stiff coastal wind that sometimes blows, which may cause the odd problem or two.

Playing the Course
Golf carts are compulsory, which is fortunate as the course starts off with a coastal links feel, turning inland through rough rolling wetlands to end up in a coastal forest, which would have meant a challenging walk.

The tees are almost invariably on the side of hills or sand dunes, with the fairways sloping through the valley, making the greens seem to be always at the bottom of the next hill. As a result, judging distance is a difficult task, especially if you play the course for the first time. The course does however provide a fair challenge to golfers of any level, especially being set in its beautiful surroundings

Wild Coast Sun Golf Course

First hole at the Wild Coast SunCourse Information
18 hole, par 72, Championship Golf Course
Yardage - 5800 (Men); 5000 (Ladies)
Course Rating - 69

Location
This course is located on and designed around the spectacular Wild Coast coastline. Be prepared to play over ravines, dams and even a waterfall on the 13th, with the course winding through a valley and the awesome natural beauty of the natural surroundings, making it an unforgettable experience for every golfer!

Playing the Course
Although the fairways are wide and generous, you will be severely penalised if veering off into the rough. The greens are immaculate, but beware of the more than 50 bunkers, placed strategically throughout the course, which seems to be always in play when the wind blows.

Of the six par threes, two don't have fairways, as you are playing across a beautiful, but scary gorge. The 12th hole is considered the signature hole - this par-five start off on an elevated tee, playing onto an elevated green. Flanked on the sides of the fairway, are a river on the left and a densely vegetated hill on your, right, so don't be too courageous!

Champagne Sports Resort

Champagne Sports ResortCourse Information
18 hole, par 72
Yardage - 6994m

Location
Located in Central Drakensberg with impressive views of the Champagne Castle and Cathedral Peak, Champagne Sports Resort combines dramatic changes in elevation with hazardous water features to provide a testing round for any golfer.

Playing the Course
Ranked 6th as a golfing destination in KwaZulu Natal, this really is a memorable, though tricky course to play on. The wide fairways can give the impression of an easy course, but the awkward water features and changes in elevation soon change that, and the 600m long opening par five is not to be underestimated!

San Lameer Golf Course

San Lameer Golf CourseCourse Information
18 hole, par 70, Championship Golf
    Course
Yardage - 6675 (Men), 5880 (Ladies)
Course rating - 72

Location
The well-known San Lameer golf course is situated in a beautiful nature conservation area and is consistently rated among one of the 10 best South African courses. Due to its layout on a wetlands area, the course offers a true challenge with water hazards to negotiate almost on every hole! Make sure you have enough balls for this one.

Playing the Course
Due to its location in a conservation area, San Lameer was designed to avoid areas of sensitive vegetation and utilise the natural features of its location and are conscious of protecting this environment. If you are a nature lover, this course will be a truly unforgettable experience as you might encounter almost 200 species of bird, and wildlife!

Most of the fairways are narrow, with right - to - left doglegs, thick rough, sand bunkers and of course the water hazards. The immaculate greens are considered to be playing fast. As with the Wild Coast, you have to play conservative - make sure you aim straight down the middle, to exclude the lush vegetation on the side of many of the fairways - which otherwise may cause you more trouble than you can handle. The 4th hole is considered the signature hole - this par three have even been compared with the famous 12th at Augusta, as you are playing across a water hazard on to a narrow green, with not much room for error!

Course Rating - 70

Location

Playing the Course
The golf course was constructed on hilly terrain and winds its way through natural coastal bush and forest, resulting in challenging uphill and downhill shots as a result of the sloping gradient. Most of the holes features beautiful trees, dense bush and irregular rough that surround the fairways, thus asking for straight drives. The greens are large and play true. This course achieves good balance with a mixture of short and long holes.

Considered the signature hole is the Par 5 third - The downhill fairway winds through an avenue of trees and thick bush, with the green surrounded on three sides by water and a vicious sand bunker.
