MOZAMBIQUE - DIVE SITES The Gap

Two-Mile Reef is a short
barrier reef situated 3 miles from The Gap, the narrow channel
separating the two main islands of the archipelago: Benguerua and
Bazaruto. This flat top reef supports a bewildering array of
beautiful reef fish, including coachman, fusilier, snapper and
surgeon. Also a colourful diversity of hard and soft corals,
starfish and anemones. Expect to see schools of pelagic fish,
the endangered dugong, and different species of turtles, dolphins,
rays, sharks and seasonal humpbacked whales
Depth: 6 to 21 m

Aquarium Pool lies within
Two-Mile reef and features an amazing variety of fish and hard
and soft coral. This is the best snorkelling spot along the Mozambique
coast (low tide only)

Benguerua Island
-
Home Reef is a man-made reef
off the beach at Marlin Lodge, comprising a sunken yacht. See
potato bass and a wide variety of reef and game fish
Depth: 10 to 12 m

House Reef situated less
than 2 miles from Marlin Lodge, this is a popular spot for resort
course divers and night dives

Magaruque Island Express is a
drift dive, located to the south of Benguerua Island and separated
by a narrow channel. Channel Reef protects stone fish and moray
eels, amongst others. Deep Hole off the eastern shore of the
island attracts schools of barracuda and stumpnose. Mild to
strong current
Depth: 12 to 28 m

Cabo San Sebastio is a rocky
reef just off the southern tip of Benguerua Island where moray eels,
manta rays and whale sharks are frequently sited. This reef offers
the best diving in the vicinity and is a deep diver's dream! There
is also a huge reef to allow shallow diving
Depth: Up to 40 m

Lighthouse & Turtle Reef
comprising potholes eroded into rock shelves off the northern end
of the island

Bazaruto Island

North Point offers 23 miles
of reef diving, including:

Brindle Bass Ridge a large
reef that features an impressive concentration of snappers, angelfish,
rubberlips, brindle bass and reef sharks. An unusual depression, the
Toilet Bowl, is lined with dazzling soft corals
Depth: Up to 18 m

Potholes can only be dived
in flat conditions. Fin from pothole to pothole, where you often
see blacktip reef sharks. Also soft corals and interesting tunnels
to explore
Depth: 12 m

Manta Ray Reef is a flat
reef where schools of fish such as crescent-tailed big eyes and
blue-banded snappers are regularly seen. The reef has spectacular
concentrations of anemones sheltering both nose-stripe and two-bar
clownfish. Green turtles are also frequently seen
Depth: Up to 15 m

Rainbow Runner Reef is where
divers should concentrate on watching the open ocean above the sea
floor. Manta (in season) and spotted eagle rays, potato and brindle
bass, kingfish, rainbow runner, green jobfish and Zambezi sharks
pass through this area. The reef also has impressive accumulations
of green-tree and whip corals

Turtle Ridge is a narrow
ridge frequented by turtles and games fish such as barracuda
Depth: 14 m

Five Mile Reef is situated
off the south eastern point of Bazaruto Island, with a similar
structure to Two-Mile Reef but not as diverse
Depth: 8 to 20 m
