HRA7J: Horse Riding: Waterberg +
Cape Town
Day 1
You will be met at Johannesburg Airport and
transferred northwards for 2.5-hours to the scenic
Waterberg Mountains, a UNESCO biosphere reserve renowned
for its diversity of plant and bird life.
Check in, settle in and relax at your malaria-free
riding lodge, situated on a working cattle and game
ranch and offering over 20,000 acres of superb riding
country with breathtaking views.
After an introductory ride in the game reserve,
including sundowners served at one of the hippo dams,
enjoy dinner in the warm hospitality of the lodge.
Days 2 to 4
Enjoy riding in small groups in the Waterberg
Mountains each day, with experienced riders enjoying
stimulating fast rides, whilst novice riders are brought
on at a pace comfortable to them - with good company,
great food & exceptional horses!
With a herd of over 40 highly responsive Anglo-Arabs,
Thoroughbreds, Boerperds and crossbreeds, ranging in
size from 14 to 16 hands, the lodge is able to closely
match horse to rider capability.
Riding options, which can be discussed and agreed with
the lodge each day, include:
- Outrides – across the vast
Waterberg Plateau, including swimming
the horses in the hippo dams
- Polocrosse – easy to learn and one of the
most exhilarating and addictive sports on horseback!
- Cattle Mustering – join the stimulating
daily routine of herding and mustering the 1,500
strong herd
- Western Games – enjoy barrel
racing and pole bending, with light commands and quick responses
- Cross Country Jumping – on an international
course designed by SA's top course builder

Riding Safaris – leisurely rides within a private
game reserve, viewing plains game such as giraffe,
zebra, kudu, impala, hartebeest, bushbuck and many
smaller mammals such as duiker, steenbok, jackal,
baboons, monkey and warthog. Hippos are also regularly
seen in the river.
A
variety of activities are also available for non-riding
partners (or those feeling saddleweary), including
swimming, tennis, bush walks, a tour of the cattle
ranch, a visit to the local village and farm school and
open top game drives at a nearby Big Five Game
Reserve.
No single supplement is charged on riding
holidays, provided you are willing to share.
Please let us know if you are not, in which case a 50%
single supplement will apply.
Day 5
Transfer 2-hours to Johannesburg Airport for
your onward flight.
You will be met at Cape Town Airport and
transferred to your hotel in this beautiful city, within
sight of Table Mountain.
Check into your hotel, settle in and relax in your
magnificent surroundings.
Days 6-7

At leisure to explore the beautiful city of Cape Town.
Choose one of the many optional local activities such as
a visit to Robben Island, the infamous prison home of
Nelson Mandela (advance booking essential in season);
explore the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront or simply relax
on golden Camps Bay beach – the choice is yours!
Day 8
Transfer to Cape Town Airport for your flight home.
