Bocas is an island province north of Chiriqui on the Caribbean coast. It is made up of mainland and an archipelago of nine closely grouped islands. The capital Bocas Town is located on the largest, Isla Colon. This province is Caribbean by location and by nature, right down to the chilled background reggae. It’s the place to enjoy a friendly welcome, the sunshine and to relax on the beach.
Bocas Town has all the dining, shopping and nightlife that you could wish for, with cheap, regular water taxi services to the islands. Laze and snorkel, sailboat or surf on remote beaches. Stroll or rent a bike and idle your way around this beautifully laid-back, timeless corner of Central America. The scuba diving is superb here too, with a host of well-preserved coral reefs in clear warm and calm seas. For something completely different why not dive the mangroves, there is a lot to see in these primeval water forests.
The province is not large but it boasts two national parks. One of them, the Parque Nacional Marino Isla Bastimentos was Panama’s first, in 1988. See and marvel at the turtle nesting grounds, pristine wilderness beaches and immense nectar bat caverns.
