Our escorted safari tours in South Africa combine Cape Town & the scenic Garden Route with the wildlife of the famous Kruger National Park. Ascend Table Mountain, visit Cape Point & explore the Garden Route, including Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn, Knysna & Tsitsikamma. Then fly to Johannesburg to we visit Soweto & the Apartheid Museum, before ending with a thrilling Big 5 safari in Kruger. Regular departures. Group size 2-18. No children < 8.

Day 1
You will be met at Cape Town Airport and transferred to your hotel in this beautiful city, within sight of Table Mountain.
 
Check in and relax in your magnificent surroundings.
Day 2
Today you will be collected from your hotel for a full day shared tour to the beautiful Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, where you may see baboons, ostrich and perhaps even dolphins or whales in season (July/November).
  
Your tour travels through Hout Bay and along spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive to the Cape Point peninsula, before returning via Simons Town and Fish Hoek. This is a scenic tour of the whole Cape Peninsula, with the optional opportunity of visiting the penguin colony at Boulders Beach (pay entrance fee locally).
 
Note: Lunch is for your own account today. Group size is minimum 2 / maximum 15.
Day 3
After having met your tour guide last night, today is free for independent sightseeing in Cape Town.
 
To orientate yourself, use your included day pass for the convenient Red Route Hop-Off Bus, which stops at all Cape Town’s key sights and attractions, including the Table Mountain cable car (with Fast Track ticket included). Here you can ascend and enjoy one of the world's most famous views.
 
Continue to trendy Camps Bay beach and the many attractions of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront (pay all entrance fees locally).
 
Note: Don't let the colour of the bus confuse you. All buses are red, but they run two different routes - the Red City Route and the Blue Kirstenbosch Route.
Day 4
This morning you will be collected from your Cape Town hotel for your small group tour along the beautiful Garden Route.
 
We travel across Sir Lowrys Pass with magnificent views of Grabouw and Elgin, a lush landscape surrounded by majestic mountains. En-route we stop at a farm stall packed with locally produced products. We then continues to Cape Agulhas at the southernmost tip of Africa, with its iconic lighthouse, marking the point where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.
 
Our journey continues via historic Swellendan and the Tradouw Pass to the small town of Barrydale and the famous Route 62. We continue to Oudtshoorn, the centre of the world's ostrich farming industry.
 
Tonight, enjoy an included dinner at an Ostrich Farm, dining on local specialities.

Day 5
We start today with a visit to the world famous Cango Caves. This vast series of underground halls and caverns was formed over 20 million years ago in the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains. The caves, which extend for over 3 miles, contain spectacular stalagmites and stalactites and offer relatively easy access.
 
Afterwards enjoy a wine tasting at a local wine estate in the scenic Schoemanshoek Valley.
 
We then continue to an Ostrich Farm to see these huge flightless birds with magnificent plumage in their natural surroundings.
Day 6
Today we drive over the magnificent Outeniqua Pass to the oyster capital of Knysna in the heart of the scenic Garden Route.
 
2024 itinerary: We travel through George and past the glorious beaches of Wilderness and lakes of Sedgefield to Knysna. Along the way we visit the Dalene Matthee Big Tree Memorial in the Knysna Forest. This enormous yellowwood tree is over 880 years old and was named after Matthee, a well-known author who wrote four books about this magnificent forest which is the stamping ground of the elusive Knysna elephants. Discover the stories of the woodcutters who worked the forests, the elephants that were hunted to extinction and the discovery of gold. After an included lunch en route, we continue to Knysna and check into our hotel in this area of outstanding natural beauty. Dinner is for your own account tonight.
 
2025 itinerary: We travel through George and past the glorious beaches of Wilderness to Knysna, stopping en route for an included lunch of traditional cuisine and local treats. As we arrive in Knysna we will check into our hotel in this area of outstanding natural beauty and have the afternoon at leisure until we meet up to enjoy an afternoon sunset cruise on the Knysna Lagoon. Dinner is for your own account tonight.
 
Note: In season we recommend booking Knysna restaurants online in advance of your visit, to avoid disappointment.
Day 7
This morning we visit Monkeyland where you will be able to see primates up-close in their natural surroundings. This sanctuary is known for its efforts to rehabilitate previously caged primates and a portion of the entry fee goes towards wildlife preservation and re-introducing them into the wild. Lunch is for your own account.
 
Afterwards we stop at the picturesque Eastern Head for more spectacular views over the Knysna Lagoon, before continuing to Brenton On Sea, a nature lover’s paradise with its endless unspoilt beach.
 
We then return to our hotel, with the afternoon free to explore more of Knysna independently. Dinner is for your own account tonight.
Day 8
Today we leave Knysna and travel 1.5-hours along the scenic Garden Route to Tsitsikamma.
 
We pass through the 'millionaires playground' of Plettenberg Bay and visit the Birds of Eden sanctuary, the largest free flight bird aviary in the world. Located within a two-hectare dome that spans a gorge of indigenous forest, you can see beautiful local birds in their natural habitat.
 
We also stop at the Bloukrans Bridge, a high single span arch bridge that offers the highest bungy jump in the world, and continue through the indigenous Tsitsikamma Forest to the spectacularly beautiful Storms River Mouth.
 
Afterwards we check in to our hotel in Tsitsikamma. Dinner is for your own account.
Day 9
Today we travel 2-hours from the Tsitsikamma Forest to Port Elizabeth for your onward flight.

You will be met at Johannesburg Airport and transferred to your hotel in this thriving city of gold.
Day 10
Today enjoy a full day tour to Soweto. With a population of well over one million people, this sprawling township was made famous by the apartheid laws.
 
We drive past the FNB Stadium (Soccer City) and through Diepkloof and Kliptown, passing the Regina Mundi Church and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, the largest in the southern hemisphere. We continue to Vilikazi Street, which was once home to two Nobel Peace laureates - Archbishop Desmond Tutu and President Nelson Mandela. Here you can visit Mandela's house, which is now a small museum. We also visit the small Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum.
 
We continue to the Apartheid Museum, which is a living memorial to racial segregation, before returning to our hotel in the late afternoon. Dinner is for your own account.
Day 11
Today is free to independently explore cosmopolitan Johannesburg - the city of gold.
 
You can board the Hop Off Bus (pay locally) to see the highlights of the city. Alternatively many optional excursions are available such as a Pretoria city tour, Montecasino Bird Park, Lesedi Cultural Village, the Cradle of Humankind (a World Heritage Site), historic Liliesleaf Farm, Gold Reef City or De Wildt Cheetah conservation project.
Day 12
This morning you will be collected from your Johannesburg hotel, before heading east to the Mpumalanga region.
 
After freshening up at our lodge, we enter the world famous Kruger National Park and spend the afternoon game viewing in a closed touring vehicle. The park offers some of the best game viewing and wildlife opportunities in the world and the visitor will soon appreciate the challenges of managing this unique reserve.
 
After an action-packed afternoon in the Kruger Park, enjoy authentic cuisine from the region.
 
Day 13
An early start today as we enter the world famous Kruger National Park, driving in an open-top game viewing vehicle with a lodge ranger for a morning of game viewing in this vast 2-million hectare game sanctuary that is the size of Wales (packed breakfast included).
 
The Kruger National Park offers magnificent game viewing opportunities and the highest concentration of lion in the whole of Africa. With nearly 150 different species of mammals and over 100 species of reptiles, you can hope to see cheetah, giraffe, hippo, kudu, crocodiles, sable antelope, waterbuck, warthogs, baboons, wild dogs and many other interesting animals as well as the Big Five - lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino. Outstanding bird watching is also guaranteed, with over 500 different species including eagles, kingfishers, vultures and storks.
 
We return to our lodge for lunch (own account) before returning to the Kruger National Park for another afternoon of game viewing in our closed touring vehicle. Alternatively you can book another optional open top game drive (pay locally). Dinner is included this evening.
 
Note: You will need your passport to enter the Kruger National Park.
 
There is also the option (for own account and subject to availability) to learn more about the Kruger Park’s Anti-Poaching Dog Unit. This specialist unit trains dogs to track poachers in the field, detect firearms, ammunition and wildlife products that enter and exit through the park gates. A portion of the fee for this MAKE TRAVEL MATTER experience goes towards ensuring that these dogs receive the best possible care in support of the vital work they do.
Day 14
This morning enjoy a tour of the beautiful Drakensberg Panorama Route, including the green Blyde River Canyon - the third largest in the world.
 
Enjoy wonderful views from God's Window and the Three Rondavels lookout. We also view the unusual Bourkes Luck Pot Holes - cylindrical holes formed from the swirling waters of the Blyde and Treur Rivers.
 
Later we return to our lodge, with the remainder of the afternoon at leisure. Alternatively you can particpate in optional activities offered at your lodge. Dinner is included this evening.
Day 15
This morning we leave our lodge after breakfast and transfer 5-hours to Johannesburg Airport for your flight home.
