•  Overnight on MV Quest
•  Search for the Northern Lights
• Whale watching in Arctic fjords
•  Three-course Norwegian dinner

Experience the raw beauty of Arctic Norway as you watch for two of its greatest natural wonders – the Northern Lights dancing overhead and whales feeding in the fjords. Begin with time in Tromso, choosing between relaxed city exploration and optional Sami and wilderness excursions. Then board MV Quest for an overnight voyage, searching for the ethereal Northern Lights far from light pollution, and watching majestic orcas and humpback whales in their natural environment.

Day 1
On arrival at Tromso Airport, take the shuttle bus into the city centre and check into your downtown hotel. Spend the afternoon and evening settling into life in one of the world’s northernmost cities, where colourful wooden houses line the harbour and snow-dusted peaks frame the horizon.

Head out to explore the compact centre on foot, wandering along the waterfront, browsing the shops, and pausing to admire the wooden cathedral and the futuristic Arctic Cathedral across the sound. If time allows, visit the quirky Troll Museum, the engaging Polar Museum, or the Polaria Arctic Aquarium. In the evening, dine on authentic Arctic cuisine at one of the city’s excellent restaurants, perhaps paired with a local craft beer and followed by Norwegian aquavit in a cosy bar.
Day 2
Spend today exploring Tromso at your leisure. Continue discovering the city, visiting the Arctic University Museum of Norway and Mack Brewery. Or cross the sound for closer views of the Arctic Cathedral and a ride on the Fjellheisen cable car for panoramic views over Tromso and the surrounding fjords.
Alternatively, head out of town to delve into outdoor activities and Sami culture. Go fatbiking through the forest, visit a husky kennels or reindeer farm, or drift in icy waters in an immersion suit for an unforgettable Arctic floating experience.

In the evening, head to the harbour to board MV Quest, an intimate Arctic expedition ship accommodating around 50 guests. Settle into your cabin, before a three-course dinner of Norwegian delicacies, followed by an engaging lecture on the Northern Lights. Afterwards, step out on deck or relax in the cosy Panorama Lounge to watch for this natural wonder dancing and swirling across the night sky, as you sail away from the city’s light pollution.
Day 3
Wake at sea and enjoy a delicious breakfast, before an on-board briefing about spotting whales, the species you’re likely to see, and this fragile Arctic ecosystem. As your ship navigates towards the feeding grounds, watch for pods of orcas and the graceful tails of diving humpbacks, assisted by your expert guides. Keep your eyes peeled, too, for fin whales, dolphins, porpoises, and a wealth of seabirds including white-tailed eagles and auks.

Savour lunch onboard, then begin your return journey to Tromso as your guides deliver another engaging presentation about whale behaviour and conservation. In the early evening, disembark in Tromso and head back to your hotel for a final night. If conditions are favourable, there may be one last chance to glimpse the Northern Lights shimmering above the Arctic Cathedral as you say farewell to Tromso.
Day 4
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and make your way back to the airport for your homeward flight.
Depending on the time of your flight, you may be able to squeeze in one final excursion. Alternatively, speak to our specialists about extending your stay or combining this itinerary with another Arctic wildlife experience.
