When to go to Kenya

Kenya has a warm equatorial climate all year round.
The best time to visit Kenya for game viewing is during the cooler and drier months from June to October. The 'short rains' fall from mid-November to mid-December, with the sun coming out again after short bursts of rain, so don’t let this stop you travelling. December to March is again high season, although much hotter.
The annual wildebeest migration from the Serengeti into the Masai Mara occurs from August to October, although the exact timing depends on the rains.
Birding is best from November to March, as this is when the migrants visit.
Between August and October humpback whales migrate along the coast of Mafia Island, and from October to February you can swim here with whale sharks.
The best time for diving is from October to March, when waters are at their clearest. November to March is the best time for deep sea fishing for marlin. Sept/Oct is also good for tuna & other species. Most boats do not operate in May and June (the end of the rainy season, when the sea is very rough).
The 'long rains' fall during April and May, when heavy downpours can affect game viewing and make road travel difficult. It can be windy along the Mombasa coast in June.
