When to go to KwaZulu Natal

The best time to visit KwaZulu Natal for game viewing is from April to September (the dry winter months), when it is warm in the day but cooler at night, but as it has a hot sub-tropical climate it can be visited all year round.

Birding is best from November to March (the hot summer), as this is when the migrants visit. This is also the rainy season, but thunderstorms tend to be short and sharp and the sun comes out afterwards. The hot wet summer is also birthing season, when the landscape is lush and green.

Scuba diving is good all year round, except for September when the seas can be choppy. Migrating whales can be seen from May to December & sea turtles nest along the northern Zululand coast from November to January.

The Drakensberg has a fresh mountain climate, with warm summers and cold but sunny winters, with some snow.
