As Colombia is situated close to the equator, it does not have different seasons and can be visited all year round.
There are however two rainy periods, so the best time to visit Colombia is from December to April, and July to September, as these are the drier seasons.
Bogota, Medellin and the Coffee Region are situated at high altitude in the Andes and have alpine climates. Cartagena and the Caribbean coast are very hot, humid and sunny virtually all year round. The Amazon is also very hot and humid all year, but not quite as hot as Cartagena.
The best time to view wildlife on the Los Llanos plains is from December to March (the dry season), when wildlife ventures out looking for water.
The best time to visit the Crystal Canyon is in July and August, when the rains have started but the water is not yet very deep. The trails are closed from December to May.
