When to go to Costa Rica

The best time to visit Costa Rica is from November to May, when the weather on the drier Pacific Coast is at its best. However, as this small country is situated on a narrow isthmus between two major oceans, the weather can vary dramatically within one day and it can rain at any time of year. The heaviest rainfall is in September and October, which should be avoided.
The best time to visit the wetter Caribbean Coast is from May to October (i.e. exactly opposite), with high humidity at the coast.
The best time for birding is from December to March.
The best time to see turtles nesting or hatching is at new moon from July to October (Caribbean coast) and June to December (Pacific coast).
Whale watching on the Pacific coast can be done almost all year, as from mid July until mid October humpback whales travel up from Antarctica to breed, whilst from December to March northern hemisphere whales travel down from Alaska, although these are much harder to see.
