Day 1
You will be met at Upington Airport and transferred to your hotel in this small town that acts as the gateway to the vast Kalahari.

Check in and relax under warm blue South African skies.
Day 2
This morning we travel 5-hours from Upington travelling through the vast and arid Kalahari, one of the world’s last unspoilt ecosystems and one of Africa’s greatest wilderness areas.

In this land of far horizons, marvel at the gigantic nests of the sociable weaver birds set high in camel thorn trees and stop to examine some of the amazing succulent desert plants which have adapted to survive in such harsh conditions.

We enter the malaria-free Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, a visionary 3.7-million hectare joint venture between South African and Botswana. Game viewing opportunities should arise immediately in this vast wildife conservation area, as we drive 1.5-hours to Kamqua picnic site. At around 2.30 pm a lodge representative will meet you in a 4x4 safari vehicle and transfer you to the lodge, which is a further 19 miles (30 km), game viewing along the way.

On arrival check in and relax at your lodge, followed by dinner under the stars.
Days 3 To 4
Today is devoted to game viewing in the vast Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

Rise early for an exciting shared open-top game drive, when game viewing conditions are at their best. Wildlife is plentiful in the red sand dunes and semi-desert of this vast game sanctuary, which is twice the size of the Kruger National Park. Of the many species of mammals and reptiles that have successfully adapted to the harsh desert conditions, the most famous is the black-maned Kalahari lion. Kgalagadi is also renowned for the magnificent oryx, cheetah and leopards - which are more easily seen in the sparse vegetation. You will see some of Africa’s most unusual animals in the Kalahari and many of the “great cats” – lion, cheetah and leopard – but the vegetation does not support elephants, rhino or buffalo.

Return to the lodge for breakfast, then relax by the swimming pool or pamper yourself at the spa. There is also the opportunity to learn more about the culture of the fascinating Bushmen who first conquered the great Kalahari and to enjoy a walking trail.

In the afternoon enjoy another open-top safari drive. You should see large herds of antelope including springbok, eland and blue wildebeest. You can also hope to see the brown and spotted hyena, black-backed jackals, curious meerkats, yellow mongoose, porcupines, honey badgers, bat-eared foxes, Cape foxes, African wild cats and many other interesting animals. Bird life is also prolific with over 260 species, including 20 different raptors

Note: Vehicles are not allowed to drive off-road in any national park in South Africa.

You will be met at Cape Town Airport and transferred to your hotel in this beautiful city, within sight of Table Mountain.

Check in and relax in your magnificent surroundings.
Day 5
Today is free for independent sightseeing in Cape Town.

To orientate yourself, we suggest you purchase a pass onboard the convenient Red Route Hop-Off Bus, which stops at all Cape Town’s key sights and attractions, including the Table Mountain cable car (discounted tickets are sold on the bus). Here you can ascend and enjoy one of the world's most famous views.

Continue to trendy Camps Bay beach and the many attractions of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront (pay all entrance fees locally).

Note: Don't let the colour of the bus confuse you. All buses are red, but they run two different routes - the Red City Route and the Blue Kirstenbosch Route.
Day 6
Today we recommend an optional full day shared tour to the beautiful Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, where you may see baboons, ostrich and perhaps even dolphins or whales in season (July/November).

Your tour travels through Hout Bay and along spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive to the Cape Point peninsula, before returning via Simons Town and Fish Hoek. This is a scenic tour of the whole Cape Peninsula, with the optional opportunity of visiting the penguin colony at Boulders Beach.

Note: Lunch is for your own account today. Group size is minimum 2 / maximum 15.
Day 7
In season, today we recommend a full day Whale Watching small group tour to the seaside town of Hermanus, a scenic 2-hour drive over Sir Lowry's Pass with spectacular views of False Bay.

From July to November, southern right and humpback whales come here to breed and this is considered the best location for land-based Whale Watching in the world. Once severely endangered, these magnificent creatures of the deep are now breeding successfully here due to a major international conservation effort. Weather permitting, take an optional boat ride to get closer views (pre-booking recommended, as boats have limited capacity).

Enjoy whale watching from the cliffs before returning to Cape Town, travelling through the apple orchids of Elgin and Sir Lowry's Pass.

Note: If you take the optional whale watching boat ride, wear a jacket as it can get cold on the boat and take a sun hat, sun glasses, binoculars, sunscreen, camera & small towel. Take your own snacks & drinks. You will be on the water for several hours in seas that can be rough, so if you are not a good sailor remember to take preventative travel sickness tablets well in advance.
Day 8
At leisure to explore more of the beautiful city of Cape Town.

You can visit the Mandela Legacy Exhibition at the City Hall, explore the vibrant Victoria & Alfred Waterfront or take the ferry to Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned (advance booking essential in season).

You can also take the Hop Off bus (Blue Route) to visit world famous Kirstenbosch Gardens or simply relax on golden Camps Bay Beach.
Day 9
Today we recommend an optional full day shared tour to the renowned Stellenbosch Winelands, travelling through the scenic Franschhoek Valley where a handful of French Huguenot refugees started South Africa’s now famous wine industry.

Explore the historic university town of Stellenbosch and several wine estates on this famous wine route, which stretched from Paarl through to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Enjoy a cellar tour and some wine tasting, before returning to Cape Town in the late afternoon.

Note: Lunch is for your own account today. Group size is minimum 2 / maximum 15.
Day 10
Transfer to Cape Town Airport for your flight home.
