When to go to Bhutan

Bhutan has an alpine climate that varies according to the altitude. It is temperate on the lower mountain slopes and subtropical in the forests of the south. The high Himalayas are covered in snow all year round.

The best time to visit Bhutan is October and November (autumn) when the days are warm and the skies are clear. This is also when most cultural festivals are held.

March and April (spring) are also popular, when the valleys come alive with spectacular flowers in bloom.

Birding is best from February to April.

January and February can be very cold, especially at night, but will reward you with incredible views and fewer people.

You should avoid June to August, as this is the monsoon season when clouds obscure the mountains.
