When to go to Kaziranga + Assam

Assam has a hot and humid subtropical climate, but with distinct regional differences.

The best time to visit Kaziranga National Park is from November (when the park opens) to March (winter) to avoid the extreme heat of midsummer and the monsoon rains which fall from June to September, when most tiger reserves are closed. In midwinter the temperature can drop to freezing at night in some regions.

Wildlife viewing is best at the end of the dry season (March and April), when animals search out the waterholes and lakes.

Birding is best from October to early April.
