When to go to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has a warm tropical climate and the sights of the Cultural Triangle can be visited all year round.

The best time to visit Sri Lanka depends on which side of the island you want to visit, as they have two monsoon seasons that are opposite - so there is always one side of this small island that is good to visit.

From October to March the beaches are best along the south and west coasts. This is also the best time for Birding, as this is when the migrants visit. The south coast Whale season runs from November to April.

From April to September the beaches are best at Pasikuda and Trincomalee on the east coast, which also has the best snorkelling. The Minneriya Elephant Gathering occurs in July and August & the east coast Whale season runs from May to September.

The best time to view leopards in Yala National Park is at the end of its dry season (January to April), when the animals search out the waterholes. Yala is closed in September & early October.

2by2 Holidays are Sri Lanka specialists so please do email or ring us on 01582 766122 for advice on the best time to visit Sri Lanka.
