Mozambique Horse Riding Safari Holiday
Day 1
You will be met at Mpumalanga Airport and transferred between 2 and 3.5-hours (depending on the location of your lodge) to the world famous Kruger National Park.

After checking in, enjoy a thrilling game drive in an open-top vehicle accompanied by a lodge ranger. Game viewing opportunities should present themselves almost immediately in this vast wildlife wilderness. Hopefully you will see several species of antelope, zebra, wildebeest and maybe even giraffe - as well as several of the Big Five - before dining under the stars in the atmosphere that only the African bushveld can provide.
Day 2
Enjoy some final early morning game viewing in the Kruger National Park.

Afterwards transfer between 2 and 3.5-hours to Mpumalanga Airport (depending on the location of your lodge) for your onward flight.

You will be met at Vilanculos Airport in Mozambique and transferred to your lodge overlooking the warm Indian Ocean.

104 Horses is the incredible story of one Zimbabwean family who were evicted from their farm and trekked across to Mozambique, taking all their precious horses with them, as well as those of many of their neighbours. This is their new home on the pristine white beaches of Vilanculos, with its vast unspoilt beaches fringed by palm trees.

Check in, settle in and relax in your subtropical surroundings. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to meet the horses and staff at the stables. You will be offered a number of horse to try in the riding school. Once you feel comfortable we will head out to the beach for a slow and relaxing ride, allowing you to become familiar with your horse and equipment. We use a combination of Wintecs, Australian stock and McClellan saddles.

On the first day we ride for 1.5-hours along the magnificent wide open beaches of this spectacular archipelago, enjoying incredible cliff-top views as we ride through pristing dune bush and along the mangrove shoreline. In the evening enjoy a fresh seafood dinner under the stars, whilst overlooking the sea.

All meals are included, but not alcohol or drinks purchased at a restaurant or bar. All riding is also included, with a weight limit of 198.5 lbs (90 kg). If Vila De Sonhos is fully booked, you will be accommodated in private homes of a similar standard. You will be provided with a fruit bowl on arrival and your fridge will be stocked with drinking water, local beer, wine and soft drinks. Pack long trousers / jodhpurs, long-sleeved shirts to avoid sunburn and mosquitoes, thick socks, riding hat, riding shoes, shorts, t-shirts, sarong, swimwear, sandals, hat, sun block, insect repellant, sunglasses on string, snorkelling equipment (mask fins & snorkel), waterproof camera, torch and malaria tablets.

Day 3
After breakfast we drive to the stables, mount up and set off on an exhilarating 3 to 4-hour ride through the outskirts of town and along deserted sandy beaches to the Red Dunes on North Beach.

There are ample opportunities for controlled canters on these wide open beaches before climbing the giant red coastal dunes. The panoramic views of the white sandbars and turquoise seas below are spectacular and one of the special highlights of this holiday.

Lunch will be served at a gorgeous beachside resaurant overflowing with seafood specialities. Afterwards we stop at a local arts & crafts centre that supports the local community - there will be plenty of time to explore and buy some souvenirs for friends and family back home. Then relax by the lodge swimming pool in the late afternoon or take a stroll on the beach. Dinner will be served in a tranquil setting as we savour and toast our last night together.
Day 4
An early start today, as we travel by motorised dhow through Bazaruto Marine Park to Benguerra Island. A tasty packed breakfast served on board, while you take in the sea views and look out for dophins, turtles and rays.

The island consists of massive sand dunes, freshwater lakes and white sandy beaches which make for a breathtaking 3 to 4-hour ride, depending upon the tide. This varied eco-system offers exceptional birding with large flocks of flamigo often seen at sea.

After your ride a mouth-watering seafood lunch, prepared by the boat captain, is served on board as we island hop by sail to Margaruque. Mask, fins and snorkels are provided so that you can enjoy some of the world's finest drift snorkelling along a vertical rock drop-off. For those not keen on the water, you can relax or take a long walk along the beach.

We return to Vilanculos as the sun sets over the ocean and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. This unique experience cannot be expressed in words or captured in pictures - it's truly magical.
Day 5
Today's energetic 4 to 5-hour ride is a favourite with many guests. The route takes us along the old coastal main road running parallel to the beach before meandering up and wading across a small river estuary. Along the route we pass through small rural villages where young children will come to wave at the horses.

As the local population thins out, there are long safe canters through coastal bush. After several hours in the saddle, a bush track through woodlands leads us down to the beach, with amazing views over the bay. This long deserted sandy beach offers a chance to experience romantic dream-like canters on your way back to the stables.

After a long day, enjoy sundowners and a fine dinner at a local retaurant.
Day 6
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast and a short 1.5-hour morning farewell ride up the coastline. The views over the bay and long stretches of unspoilt beach will be a memory that you will never forget.

We finish our safari with our world-renowned swim - to see horses wallowing and rolling in the sea is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a truly magical experience. Riders are mesmerised by the grace, power and movement of these magnificent animals swimming, so bring your camera to capture the moment.

After lunch transfer to Vilanculos Airport for your flight home.

If the tide is out on your farewell day, we will do the swim on another day.
